To ensure comfortable accommodation for students, DIU has established three halls for male students on campus. Younus Khan scholar Garden 2 has a total of 1026 seats for students.

111 students receive Dean’s Award

Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. M Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. S. M Mahabubul Haque, Mazumder, Pro Vice Chancellor, all Deans of Daffodil International University along with distinguished guests and Dean’s List Award winners pose for a photograph at the ‘Dean’s List Celebration Ceremony’ held today at Daffodil International University.

Daffodil International University introduced Dean’s Award for the students for their excellent Academic, Co-Curricular and Extra Curricular performance for the first time in the history of the university. Under the ‘Dean’s List Celebration Ceremony’ a total of 111 students from different departments under 5 Faculties of the university have been given Dean's Awrd today on June 05, 2024 (Wednesday). Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University was present as the chief guest at the program and handed over the awards to the recipients. Prof. Dr. M Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor of the university presided over the program while Prof. Dr. S. M Mahabubul Haque Mazumder, Pro Vice Chancellor was present as the guest of honor in the program. Deans of different faculties spoke on the occasion. The award winners were 55 from Faculty of Science and Information Technology, 14 from Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship, 18 from Faculty of Engineering,14 from Faculty of Life and Health Science and 10 from Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.   

Addressing as the chief gest Dr. Md. Sabur Khan said, “The students of different Departments of the faculties are being nurtured so that they can grow and play the vital role in the socio- economic and technological development of the society and the country. They will be the better human being with liberal outlook who will contribute to achieving the sustainable Development Goals 2030.”

Congratulating the graduates, he said, a university is acknowledged not only by your academic qualities, but also by your attitude, behavior and morality, co–curricular and extra-curricular activities. In coming days, best teachers of the university will be awarded in the same way, he added.

DIU students represent Bangladesh at NASA

NASA Space Apps Global Champion team "Team Diamonds", a team of students from the Department of Software Engineering, Daffodil International University (DIU) pose for a photograph with the Consul General of Bangladesh in New York Mr. Md. Najmul Huda.

"Team Diamonds", a team of students from the Department of Software Engineering, Daffodil International University (DIU), won the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2022 as the "Most Inspirational" project. The team is now heading to NASA – National Aeronautics and Space Administration – to represent the country as the champions of this prestigious international competition. Team Diamonds is led by Tisha Khandokar as its team leader. Other team members include Md Munim Ahmed, the team's UI/UX designer and data analyst; Injamamul Haque Sonet, the System Architect; Abu Niaz, the app's developer, and Zarin Chowdhury, the team's dedicated researcher.

They will participate in various NASA events on June 4/5/6. Notable among them is that on the 5th they will be given a reception at the NASA headquarters in Washington and here they will also be given the opportunity to give a presentation and be given a certificate. Then on the 6th, NASA will fly them to a launch facility in Maryland from where the spaceships will be launched. They will stay there all day. Then they will visit the NASA Space Museum. Since their departure, they have been welcomed by various embassies of Bangladesh in the United States and NRB Global. The Bangladeshi community in New York welcomed them. There is a special reception from NRB Gable. The University of Washington hosted a reception for them on the 8th. They will then attend the Bangladesh Consulate Office in New York and various meetings with the Ambassadors.

They are going to different universities and participating in different meetings about what they can do for the country. They will also hold meetings with several professionals and institutions.

 The team's winning project, "Diamond in the Sky", is an interactive, game-based learning tool designed for children aged 10 to 12.  "This innovative application aims to teach kids about stellar variability and the dynamic nature of the night sky," said Tisha. "By engaging with the game, children can recognize star patterns, understand star colors, and learn about their brightness. The purpose of our app is to provide young learners the opportunity to comprehend star twinkling and the slow changes in the night sky, fostering a new perspective and appreciation for astronomy."

"Winning the NASA Space Apps Challenge is an incredible honour and a source of immense pride for our team and our country," added Tisha. "Representing Bangladesh and getting to raise our red and green flag at NASA fills us with joy and pride, showcasing our nation's potential on a global stage."

As Team Diamonds sets to depart for NASA, they have high expectations from their visit.  "Our plans include meeting with NASA scientists and gaining valuable knowledge about space science," said Tisha. "We are particularly excited about our invitation to visit the Goddard Space Flight Center, which promises hands-on experience with cutting-edge space science and technology. This visit will undoubtedly enrich our understanding and inspire further innovation."

She said, "By addressing genuine issues, you can make meaningful contributions to the world and increase your chances of success in any competition. Embrace the challenge, think creatively, and remember that your solutions can have a significant impact. This mindset is key to excelling in the NASA Space Apps Challenge and making a difference in the field of space science."

DIU hosts First Multimedia AI Hackathon in Bangladesh

The Department of Multimedia and Creative Technology (MCT) under the Faculty of Science and Information Technology at Daffodil International University has successfully organized the first-ever Multimedia AI Hackathon in Bangladesh. The event began with its first round on 18th May 2024, attracting 830 submissions across four categories: AI-Based Image Generation, AI-Based 3D Modeling, AI-Based 2D/3D Animation, and AI-Based Game Development. From these, the jury selected 23 outstanding projects for the final round.

 On 25th May 2024, the Final Round Project Presentation and Awards Ceremony was held, featuring industry leaders, government officials, and academic figures. Distinguished guests included Abul Fatah Md Baligur Rahman, Project Director of DEIEDP, ICT Division; Mr. Rana Moshiur, Consultant at the ICT Division; S M Bonin, Consultant at the ICT Division; and S.A. Mamun, Multimedia and Animation Consultant for the SDMGA Project, ICT Division. Industry representatives included Tayhidul Islam, Project Director at NDE Infratech; Nafees Khabir, Managing Director of Perky Rabbit; and Engr. Nurul Islam Nahid, Founder and CEO of Universe Soft Care. Academic leaders present were Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Daffodil International University; Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor; Professor Dr. S.M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Pro-Vice Chancellor; Professor Dr. Syed Akhter Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Information Technology (FSIT); Prof. Dr. Md Kabirul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) and Dr. Shaikh Muhammad Allayear, Proctor. This time-demanding event was planned by Md. Salah Uddin, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of MCT.

 The ceremony included a special session on “The Journey of the Animation Industry in Bangladesh,” followed by final round presentations from 23 students. The jury recognized 15 projects, awarding winners, 1st runners-up, and 2nd runners-up across all categories, along with three special awards in the AI-Based 2D/3D Animation category.

 Dr. Md. Sabur Khan emphasized practical applications, while Abul Fatah Md Baligur Rahman committed to securing funds for innovative student projects. Other guests highlighted the growing global multimedia market and the promising career opportunities for students.

 The event featured three webinars: “The Role of AI in Graphic Design” by Md Golam Faruque; “Future of 3D: How AI is Transforming Modeling and CGI” by Tanvir M. N. Islam; and “Integration of AI in the Animation Industry” by Murad Abrar.

 Following the ceremony, the MCT Department signed MoUs with Perky Rabbit and Universe Soft Care, marking promising collaborations. The Multimedia AI Hackathon fosters innovation and creativity among students, preparing them for future challenges in the digital landscape.
